EXCLUSIVE Interview with Bobby V: Back to Love single, Peach Moon EP, and more

Bobby V Back to Love

On May 14, 2013, Bobby V gave us a taste of his upcoming EP by releasing its title track “Back to Love” off his upcoming EP “Peach Moon.” Just recently, I spoke to Bobby V about the “Peach Moon” EP and while there’s no release date set for it yet, it promises to be something fresh and new while also paying homage to classic R&B.

UPDATE June 5, 2013: Here’s the newly released lyric video for “Back to Love” from the upcoming album “Peach Moon”

Interview with Bobby V

Ifelicious: You mentioned on your Facebook fan page that your new EP ‘Peach Moon’ would be a throwback to classic R&B. Who are some of your favorite classic R&B artists?

Bobby V: Babyface, Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers, Lionel Richie just to name a few.

Ifelicious: Tell me about some of the artists and producers that you worked with on this EP?

Bobby V: I didn’t have a lot of features on the album. I just did it straight up all natural.

Ifelicious: Alright! All natural. Bobby V stripped, unplugged.

Bobby V: It’s very organic…I’ve been performing with my band, and I’ve been really going back to my love of music so I’ve been doing a little more vocal training. I’ve been doing piano lessons…doing lots of things to better myself as an artist. The name of my band is Peach Moon…When I looked up the title, the peach was the first fruit eaten on the moon, and this is the first of me doing something different and something new. So it all just coincides.

Ifelicious: It sounds like you are moving in a different direction with this project. I always say your real fans will follow wherever you go musically.

Bobby V: Right, but the thing is it’s not so far left that you’re like, ‘What the hell is wrong with him?’ It’ll still be in the vein of Bobby V but it’s…It’s almost like a reinvented D’Angelo but with a Bobby V twist…We’ve got trumpets, drums, and it’s just very soulful, very grown, very next level.

Ifelicious: You’re always rockin’ the thick gold chain. Have you ever thought about coming out with your own jewelry line?

Bobby V: I want to do a lot of stuff, but it’s so hard just trying to be an artist especially being an independent [artist]. We have to do so much work on our own that it’s hard to do much outside of that because it’s all time consuming. I definitely would like to do a lot of different things, but right now my focus is on my music.

Ifelicious: Is there anyone else in your family that sings?

Bobby V: My sister sings, and my mom sings.

Ifelicious: Have you ever thought of doing a song with your sister?

Bobby V: I actually did a Christmas song with her for my church. My church did a Christmas CD the year before last. We sang ‘Glory’ together.

Ifelicious: Have you ever made love to your own music?

Bobby V: Of course! I love my music…I hope people enjoy my music but at the end of the day, it has to feel good to me…‘Are You Ready’ from my last album is probably a song that I have listened to recently to set the mood.

Listen to “Are You Ready” by Bobby V and see if it gets you in the mood, too! ;-)

I guess we’ll have wait a little longer to see what else is to come with Bobby V’s “Back to Love” EP. I love his band’s name Peach Moon. I bet they put on a show!
