In light of Whitney Houston‘s recent comeback album “I Look To You” released on August 31, 2009 and by Twitter request from Phierce (peep his website- phiercepholks.onsugar.com) it was due time to pay homage to this true diva. Forget the controversy that has surrounded Whitney over the years, and allow yourself to be a music purist for a moment. This lady, even now, can out-sing most of our chart topping artists (eh-hem! move over Miley Cyrus…recently on the list of VH1 Divas…what were they thinking?).
In searching for a song, I immediately thought of “The Bodyguard” soundtrack because it makes me smile and think of my hubby who I met around the time that this soundtrack featuring Whitney Houston was popular. On one of our first dates, he was playing a dubbed cassette tape of the soundtrack, and I remember getting butterflies like you do when you fall “in like” with someone. Ahh, the good ole days…
Whitney will undoubtedly go down in history for being one of the world’s greatest voices. Listening to her range and smooth, melodic delivery of “I Will Always Love You” brings me chills.
Enjoy this week’s Throwback Friday song “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston from The Bodyguard soundtrack. Oh, and someone please hand this season’s American Idol contestants a memo to stop choosing this song and bastardizing it like they’ve done in season’s past. When you see it on the list, just skip right over it because Whitney’s rendition (I’m partial to it over Dolly Parton’s) is untouchable.
UPDATE FEB 11, 2012: with the passing of Whitney Houston today, many of the videos for her songs have been disabled. Here’s a link to watch this song compiled in a manner to match up the a capella version with the “Bodyguard” film. YouTube LINK. RIP Whitney Houston… 😥
