Leela James: New RnB album “My Soul” available now!

Leela James, the R&B/Soul diva whose deep, rich, gritty vocals have been compared to Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Tina Turner, has returned to the scene with the May 25, 2010 release of her new album, “My Soul,” from Stax Records/Concord Music Group. With raw vocals and a funky vibe, the lead single off the album, “Tell Me You Love Me,” was featured yesterday as USA Today’s “Pick of the Week.” Outside of the studio, Leela can be seen on TV co-hosting the second season of the beauty talk show “My Black Is Beautiful,” which airs Sundays at 2PM EST on BET. My Soul is now available nationwide.

RnB spotlight: Interview with Leela James on “My Soul” and BET talk show

A few months ago, I posted a press release about Leela James with a copy of her lead single “Tell Me You Love Me” from her upcoming album “My Soul” due out on May 25, 2010 (see my blog post “Leela James ‘Tell Me You Love Me’…”). It was my first time listening to Leela James. There’s something about her voice that is beautifully distinctive, folksy and current yet soulful as if she’s channeling the greats like Aretha Franklin or a Chaka Khan. If you haven’t checked out the single, I’m posting it again below for you to listen and download.

“My Soul” set for release on May 25, 2010. From the very first track on her 2005 debut album Leela James has captured the gritty, emotion-drenched essence of artists like Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Mavis Staples, Marvin Gaye and has made it her mission to bring it all back – pushing the music forward with a fresh, contemporary perspective that remains faithful to the music’s deep and powerful roots.
