2010 FEMALE HIP-HOP HONORS is an award show that breaks all of the rules of conventionalism. Unlike the Grammy Awards or the Billboard Music Awards, the 2010 FEMALE HIP-HOP HONORS were created to acknowledge and honor the achievements and contributions of legendary females in hip-hop, unsigned and independent artists within the urban music scene. Every year there are incredible records released by independent labels and artists.
Mega-stars including Taylor Lautner, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Jim Carrey, Black Eyed Peas, Ryan Sheckler, Jay-Z, Selena Gomez and Misty May Treanor reigned as this year’s favorites, winning top honors at Nickelodeon’s 23rd Annual Kids’ Choice Awards live telecast, Saturday, March 27, (8-9:30 p.m. ET/tape delay PT). Hosted by funnyman Kevin James and broadcast from UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, kids’ top choices in television, movies, music and sports were revealed this evening via winners’ boxes that contained everything from a live animal, to a human hand, inflatable man and of course slime. The evening got off to a slime-filled start as Kevin James and Adam Sandler opened the show with their own rendition of “Get Slimed Tonight” while soaking the audience with the green goo. Later in the show, The Last Airbender’s Nicola Peltz’ magic “slimebending” got out of hand; Katy Perry, Steve Carell and Tina Fey were treated to surprise slimings; and American Olympian Apolo Anton Ohno set a world record by shooting 60 yards across a football field, via the Kids’ Choice Awards Slime Catapult, through the goal posts and into a vat of slime. In a special honor, The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama accepted the first-ever Nickelodeon Big Help Award for inspiring families to be healthy and active through her recently launched Let’s Move! initiative.
That’s right. I am no longer a fashion week virgin, and what a way to begin my newest love affair! On Friday, March, 19, 2010, Directives West (www.directiveswest.com) hosted the First.LA Fashion Show featuring Fall 2010 looks from local contemporary designers. The event was held exclusively for media and fashion industry invitees and held at the beautiful Cooper Building in Downtown LA. As a reality TV aficionado, I was overly geeked to check out Jeffrey Sebelia’s collection, winner from “Project Runway” Season 3 (www.bravotv.com/project-runway), called Fluxus (see Fashion News “Fluxus appoints Jeffrey Sebelia as new Head Designer”). I did get to meet him in person at the end and of course asked him kindly to grant me an interview.
8/19/2009 EVENT RECAP- Film screening of Angelo Bell’s “The Broken Hearts Club” at The Bungalow Club in LA
I literally raced from the airport to try to catch at least a little bit of this screening and meet filmmaker Angelo Bell in person, but I got there at the end. In any case, there will still folks mingling and enjoying themselves and the buzz was that “The Broken Hearts Club” is a great flick.
