It’s time to post the nominees and make my Ifelicious picks for my fave awards show of the year- the MTV VMAs!!!  This year’s host is Chelsea Handler from E!’s “Chelsea Lately.”  The house band for the awards show will be Deadmau5.  I will be like you, watching from my couch as I got turned down for press credentials…the woes of a lonely lady blogger diva hottie, yet to be discovered…

Lady Gaga and Eminem lead with the most nominations this year.  Lady Gaga has a record breaking 13 noms, even competing against herself in a few categories, while Eminem follows with 8 noms.  I’m on board with that since Lady Gaga is on fire right now and Eminem is blazing his comeback trail, too.  Per MTV’s press release, Lady Gaga stated:

“I’m so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history. Ironically, I’m even more proud it’s an unlucky number; 13,” said Lady Gaga. “A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for 3 reasons: To make loud music, gay videos, and cause a damn raucous. Thank You MTV!”

and Eminem “thankfully” stated:

“Apparently MTV doesn’t care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMA’s. F me, right?!?!,” said Eminem. “I mean, I’ll be there but don’t expect me to be nice about it.”

Virgin nominees this year are: Justin Bieber (ok, maybe i should’ve say “first time” instead of virgin..hee hee! ), Drake, Ke$ha, Florence + The Machine, and Mumford & Sons.

In its 27th year of handing out the coveted Moon Man statue, the MTV VMAs will air on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 9:00 PM.  Until then, you can go online and cast your vote for the main categories at http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2010/ (i.e. all but the professional categories i listed separately at the end).  The polls are open and will remain open until the VMAs air on September 12. In addition, text voting for “Best New Artist” is open to all wireless carrier subscribers by texting BNA to 97979. Also, Verizon Wireless subscribers can vote in all categories by texting VMA to 97979 (standard message rates apply).

Below is the listing of nominees and my Ifelicious picks for this year.  I want to know yours, too, so leave me loads of comments.

The following have been classified by MTV as professional categories.  We don’t get to vote on these, but I’m going to make my picks anyway.  At the time of this initial post, I am only making my picks in 2 of the categories, but I’ll be making updates again soon!

This year’s Teen Choice Awards was taped on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Gibson Ampitheatre in Universal City, CA and aired on FOX Monday, August 9 at 8:00 PM EST/7:00 PM CST.  This year’s awards show was hosted by pop singer Katy Perry and the fellas from the “Glee” cast- Kevin McHale (“Artie Abrams”), Cory Monteith (“Finn Hundson”), Mark Salling (“Puck”), and Chris Colfer (“Kurt Hummel”). YouTube sensation Michael Buckley of the popular web series “What The Buck Show” was chosen to host the live U-stream webcast of the red carpet along with Taryn Southern.

Winners are chosen by teens ages 13 to 19.  This year over 85 million votes were cast.  The categories include: movies, television, sports, music, and other.  Popular this year was the Twilight series, “The Vampire Diaries,” Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Eminem, and Selena Gomez.  Yes, Lady Gaga was the pick for Female Artist and Summer Music Star, but none of her songs won in the music category which makes me wonder about her staying power.

In my mind, the sports, fashion and beauty, and other categories could be left out of the awards.  Sports just seems out of place.  Fashion and Beauty as well as Other honor people that are likely already awarded in other categories for similar appeal…but that’s just me.  I was surprised to see David Archuleta‘s name pop up in the Other category for Choice American Idol Album.

Music fans were able to vote for the T-Mobile “Breakthrough Artist” Award and selected Gloriana as this year’s “Breakthrough Artist.”

Winners were determined by online voting at amavote.com, the official voting location for the award show. Additional information about the show and performers can be found on ama.abc.com. Artists were honored in the categories of Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin and Contemporary Inspirational.

About the Voting

Initial nominees were selected by using ballots containing names compiled from data supplied by the music industry trade publication, Radio & Records and Nielsen Soundscan, which tracks retail music sales. The ballots were then sent to a national sampling of more than 15,000 people based among other things on what type of music they listen to, what they buy and how many albums they purchase per year. The top three vote getters in each category were determined to be the nominees for this year’s American Music Awards (except in the Artist of the Year and T-Mobile Breakthrough categories which each have five Nominees). Winners were determined by online voting at ama.abc.com as well as at amavote.com (votes will be collected from October 14 to November 7)

On Kanye West and Taylor Swift…

Krysten: I felt so bad for Taylor Swift. I really did. Kanye, I mean he just doesn’t hold back for anybody. He kind of goes in full force. I mean it kind of was her moment and he kind of, I mean, he did ruin it but Beyonce patched it up. She gave Taylor her moment.

Ifelicious: Ya, I thought it was nice in the end. I’m still on the fence on whether or not it was all staged.

Krysten: I was trying to figure out that myself, but I just don’t think they would stage something like that, you know?

Mikey P’s take

Mikey P: Let’s put it this way, if Kanye West tried to bum rush me when I was getting my first award, I would have drop kicked him in the face. There is no question about it. He would not have made it onto the stage. That midget would not have made it past b_Roc let alone me. Kanye West stands four inches shorter than Taylor Swift so honestly Taylor Swift, she could’ve stood a fighting chance.

Ifelicious: Ya, I think she was just in shock.

Mikey P: It was so immature. I lost a lot of respect for Kanye West because of that. In the end, it was great because Beyonce just kind of like threw it back in Kanye’s face…by bringing [Taylor Swift] back onstage.

Krysten:  My favorite by far, I mean, I’m like a fan of Lady Gaga.  I love her.  She’s unusual.  She’s unique.  She’s just awesome.  I love her.

Ifelicious:  I was surprised to see how strong of a fan base she has.

Krysten:  I read an article on her.  Like when she first came out I wasn’t feeling her that much.  She was ok.  She had a strong voice but…from reading this article, I was just blown away.  She’s so articulate.  She knows what she’s doing.  She knows exactly what she wants.  She knows exactly where she wants to go, and I love that.

Mikey P’s favorite

Mikey P: I think my favorite performance last night was probably Pink because any person that can do those acrobatics and still sing at the same time. She was singing live, and that was impressive. That’s all I can say about that.

Ifelicious: Ya, I was like somebody needs to send that tape over to Britney and be like, “Guess what? When you go on tour, I would like to see you sing.”

Mikey P didn’t really respond to that, but I put it out there anyway. Britney, take note!!!

Mikey P: Jay Z’s performance was monumental as well. I was impressed by his entrance because I like the whole camera following him from behind…I think Alicia Keys stole the show from him at the end, and Lil Mama walking on stage was just retarded.
