Leela James, the R&B/Soul diva whose deep, rich, gritty vocals have been compared to Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Tina Turner, has returned to the scene with the May 25, 2010 release of her new album, “My Soul,” from Stax Records/Concord Music Group. With raw vocals and a funky vibe, the lead single off the album, “Tell Me You Love Me,” was featured yesterday as USA Today’s “Pick of the Week.” Outside of the studio, Leela can be seen on TV co-hosting the second season of the beauty talk show “My Black Is Beautiful,” which airs Sundays at 2PM EST on BET. My Soul is now available nationwide.
Procter & Gamble (P&G) today announced singer Leela James as one of the co-hosts for the second season of its successful “My Black Is Beautiful” television series that will return to BET Networks beginning May 2, 2010. Leela James joins actress Tasha Smith, actress/comedian Kim Coles and television personality Alesha Renee to co-host the six-episode, half-hour show. Airing on Sundays at 1:00 PM EST, the show is an extension of P&G’s My Black Is Beautiful campaign to celebrate Black beauty and uplift the images of African-American women.
