Indie mockumentary thriller, presented as a film within a film, “Blood Effects” has launched a Kickstarter campaign, now through April 8, 2013, to raise the necessary funding needed for final editing. Featured in the cast and as a co-executive producer is Shar Jackson.
17 year old Sweetness O’Hara, played by Zoë Kravitz (“X-Men: First Class” and daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet), is a good kid from a working class, albeit dysfunctional, family living in Queens, New York in Victoria Mahoney’s semi-autobiographical, debut film “Yelling to the Sky.”
A great story translated into an OK film, “In the Hive” is the first Robert Townsend flick that I’ve seen since the early 90s. Nonetheless, it’s worth supporting in the theaters for three reasons
“Immediate Family” is currently showing at Chicago’s Goodman Theater and will run through August 5, 2012. It is directed by Phylicia “Claire Huxtable” Rashad, a two-time Emmy nominee and Tony Award winner and is one of the best contemporary plays that I’ve seen to date.

In the wake of Rodney King’s death, the documentary is airing again on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 8pm ET/PT on VH1.
