It is very important for every model to be aware of the many scam artists in the modeling industry today. Models sometimes find themselves blindsided by the overwhelming desire to model, so much so that they fail to see the real picture or the true face of the ruthless scam artist. This artist is not your usual R&B or country superstar type of artist, but the most unpopular type of artist whose only J.O.B is to be up to no good. From my personal experiences, I feel that it is most crucial that all models know how to avoid this artist in addition to the numerous pitfalls, negative industry flaws, and unproductive decisions that can keep them from succeeding and reaching their career goals.
First and foremost, every model should know and understand that they do not have to pay anyone any money up front to become a model. One can start off simply by sending in a picture of his/herself using a Polaroid camera or the ever popular internet. Some agencies/companies may charge a small fee for database or website fees, but most reputable agencies will only take monies from your pay after booking work. You must make sure to always do your homework about the agency and/or company that you are interested in working with, and this will help you to be able to chose the best fit agency for you.
Secondly, always follow your GUT feelings; listen to your heart and your inner intuitions. If you feel uncomfortable about any situation, “RUN!” because nine times out of ten your gut feelings are going to be correct. Never go to any unfamiliar places alone and avoid dangerous situations. Keep in mind that you always need to be alert, focused, and cautious. It is important that you strive to avoid people that can or will harm you, or crush your dreams. Always keep a positive attitude, a pleasing personality, an open heart full of faith, and an alert frame of mind. Let God be your pilot as you let your dreams soar and fly like there is no tomorrow.
Finally, keep in mind that this is a job or the career that you have painstakingly chosen, so take it seriously and others will admire you for it. Always remember that people can only get away with what you allow them to, so don’t fall into the trap of the heartless scam artist recruiter, who is nothing more than a money magnet out to separate you from your finances, pride, and dignity. So keep dreaming and striving for your goals and you will reach them with a vengeance that can’t compare to anything else. In ending with words from the wise, (me)! Be Smart, Be Persistent, Be Wise, Be Confident, and success will follow. Stay strong, keep the faith and let GOD!

This is a great post. I don’t know how many times I have told someone you do not pay someone to be a model. I remember a family member asking everyone for money because she was trying to set her daughter up with a modeling agency. I told her it was a scam and I could not contribute to it. Unfortunately, she did not listen.
