13th Annual Black August Hip Hop Project benefit concert feat. Dead Prez, Pharoahe Monch, Cody Chestnutt and more

On August 13, 2010 Malcolm X Grassroots Movement’s (MXGM) Black August Hip-Hop Project will produce its 13th Annual Benefit Concert at Highline Ballroom in New York City. The 2010 Black August Hip Hop Benefit Concert continues a long tradition as the only hip-hop show of its caliber for the benefit and awareness of U.S. political prisoners.

The New York Black August Hip-Hop Project has established a national reputation with its strong legacy of consistently selling out Nokia Theatre, BB Kings, Bowery Ballroom, and other premiere New York venues with star studded lineups that have included artists such as Common, David Banner, Erykah Badu, Gil Scott Herron, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and The Roots. In addition to the NYC concerts organizers have also facilitated international exchanges and festivals in Cuba, South Africa, Tanzania, Brazil, and Venezuela.

In the words of MXGM member Lalit Clarkson, “The Black August Concert provides a way for us to spread awareness to a multitude of people using the powerful tool of hip-hop for a positive cause.” This year’s concert goers will be endowed with live performances by Dead Prez, Cody Chestnutt, Pharoahe Monch, Sadat X, Hasan Salaam, Homeboy Sandman, and special surprise guests.

Tickets can be purchased at the Highline Ballroom Box Office located at 431 W. 16th St New York, NY or online at www.ticketweb.com. To learn more about Black August and view footage of past shows please visit www.blackaugust.com.
